Is Jesus a WEAK GOD?

"A Refutation to BISMIKA ALLAHUMA's comments on Jesus not being able to save himself let alone be God"

Quennel Gale

Menj, web administrator of "Bismikaallahuma", recently made allegations about Jesus, on our message board, stressing his inability to save himself from the cross. As many Muslims before him, Menj believes that if Jesus is God, then God doesn’t die. If God does die, Muslims would contend that he is weak and therefore unable to save himself let alone be God. In this thorough response to Menj comments about Jesus we provide answers to Menj's questions on Jesus and the reason behind his crucifixion. After reading this article we believe that both Muslims and Christians will be able to see the reason behind Jesus death and resurrection.

>>Gary [comments to menj]: MENJ, the angels in heaven will sing for joy when you meet Jesus Christ!
>> - MENJ will meet Jesus -
[MENJ comments back]>Hahahaha! What a fantasy!
>Do you really think that I will disobey my Lord and my God by worshipping a half-naked man swinging from a cross?

It should be noted that Menj has not proven that Allah is the true god of the Bible. It is very common for Muslim apologists to assume many preconceived notions when arguing for the legitimacy of Islamic theological dogma. It is obvious to the reader that Menj has clearly established in his mind that Allah is the one true God and therefore is the final authority on any matter dealing with Jesus and the message of the Bible. However many Islamic apologists overlook one common message taught by the Quran, which is its purpose to verify earlier scripture. Here we contend ourselves in directing you to what Muhammad said in these Quranic verses:

"And BEFORE THIS WAS THE BOOK OF MOSES as a guide and a mercy: and THIS BOOK IS A VERIFICATION (OF IT) IN ARABIC TONGUE to warn those who transgress and as glad tidings to the righteous." S. 46:12

"And lo! It is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, which the True Spirit hath brought down upon thy heart, that thou mayest be (one) of the warners, In Plain Arabic Speech. And lo! IT IS IN THE SCRIPTURES OF THE MEN OF OLD. Is it not a token for them THAT THE DOCTORS OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL KNOW IT?" S. 26:192-197

Say: "I AM NO BRINGER OF NEW-FANGLED DOCTRINE AMONG THE MESSENGERS, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I follow but that which is revealed to me by inspiration; I am but a Warner open and clear." S. 46:9

According to the Quran we see that Muhammad's message is:

1. A VERIFICATION of the Torah and Gospel
2. A VERIFICATION of the book of Moses in Arabic tongue
3. The SCRIPTURES OF MEN OF OLD in Plain Arabic Speech.

If the Quran is verification of the Book of Moses or the Torah it would point the Muslim to Jesus Christ who said this:

"But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, FOR HE WROTE ABOUT ME. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?" John 5:45-47

If Muhammad claims to be no bringer of anything new, why is he not pointing Muslims to Jesus? There is nothing in the scriptures of old dealing with "Allah" the common name for the Arab high god deity. The Quran itself tells you how to verify whether its message is true or not:

"If you (Muhammad) are in doubt regarding that which We have revealed to thee, ASK those who READ the book from before you..." S. 10:94

The Quran itself requires that Muhammad himself ask the people of the gospel whether his message was true. There is nowhere in Islamic history in which he sought their guidance to verify the content and the accuracy of his message. This is one very important fact that isn’t commented upon by Islam or Muslim apologists such as Menj. As insignificant as it may seem, this can be the difference between one’s eternal destination. If Muhammad would have checked with the “people of the book” (Christians particularly in this case since we are dealing with the death of Jesus Christ) he would have seen that his message wasn't from the true and living God. Therefore

1. Since the Quran doesn't agree with previous scripture how can the Muslim prove that it was from God?

2. Menj claims that his lord told him “this and that” but he hasn’t verified that it was even from God.

Notice again that Muhammad said that he came to verify what was said by Moses in particular. Let’s define what verify means for you:

VERIFY

1 : to confirm or substantiate in law by oath
2 : to establish the truth, accuracy, or reality of
synonym see CONFIRM- (From Merriam Webster online dictionary)

Since Muhammad came to verify what Moses said in the Book of Moses, the Torah, here is what Moses said:

"THE LORD (YAHWEH) said to me `What they say is good. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks IN MY NAME, I myself will call him to account. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in THE NAME OF OTHER GODS, must be put to death.' " Deuteronomy 18:17-20

In the Deuteronomy 18:17-20, God gives the first test on how to distinguish between a false prophet and a true messenger of God through the words of Moses. Before Muslims assume that God just spoke through Muhammad they need to see if Muhammad passed the test that God instituted in the Torah. It was this message which Muhammad himself claimed to verify and confirm.

1. Notice that God says this prophet must speak in his name (YHWH)

Did Muhammad once call god's name YHWH or an acceptable synonym of this name? No.

2. Notice that a prophet can't speak in the name of foreign gods. This means any other God other than YHWH.

Even in the Arabic Bible we turn your attention to this:

Ex 34:6 FA IJTAZA YAHWAH QUDDAMAHU WA NADA YAHWAH: "YAHWAH AL'ILAHU ARRA7IMU WA ARRA'UWFU BATIU ALGHADABI WA KATHIRU AL'I7SANI WA ALWAFA'I.

5 And Jehovah came down in the cloud, and stood beside him there, and proclaimed the name of Jehovah.
6 And Jehovah passed by before his face, and proclaimed, Jehovah, Jehovah God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth, -DARBY

Wouldn't this be the perfect time to tell Moses that God's name was "ALLAH" here? If God's name was truly Allah then it would be rendered like this:

Ex 34:6 FA IJTAZA ALLAH QUDDAMAHU WA NADA ALLAH: "ALLAH AL'ILAHU ARRA7IMU WA ARRA'UWFU BATIU ALGHADABI WA KATHIRU AL'I7SANI WA ALWAFA'I.

Notice that the Arabic Bible gives us clear evidence that it was "in the name of YHWH God, Merciful and Gracious", not Allah. Muhammad never spoke in the name of YHWH therefore he failed the prophethood test which he claims to verify. The Quran tries to downplay this by saying:

Say: "CALL UPON ALLAH, OR CALL UPON RAHMAN: BY WHATEVER NAME YE CALL HIM, (it is well): for to Him belong THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NAMES. Neither speak thy Prayer aloud, nor speak it in a low tone, but seek a middle course between." S 17:110

Notice that this verse doesn't verify the book of Moses since God explicitly told Moses:

And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by God Almighty, BUT BY MY NAME JEHOVAH… Exodus 6:3

Even the Arabic shows that god's name is YAHWEH:

dhahartu… 'ilaahan qadiyran 3alaa kulli shay'in. 'ammaa BI-'ISMIY YAHWAH falam 'u3raf 3indahum.

Contrary to popular Muslim belief, you can't call on God by whatever name since he says that:

YHWH, the God of your fathers, the God (El) Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, has sent me to you.' THIS IS MY NAME FOREVER, and this is My memorial name TO ALL GENERATIONS. Exodus 3:15

I AM I YHWH, THAT IS MY NAME; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images. Isaiah 42:8

Muhammad failed the first part of the test, instituted by God through Moses, hence he isn't a prophet of God. For Menj to believe the Quran blindly is not proof of Muhammad’s divine inspiration. If a prophet comes on the scene and then says “I have a message from God” but yet proceeds to alter or change what God previously said then he must be rejected as being a messenger of God. Menj can't prove whether Muhammad is a prophet nor if his words were inspired by God. He has to totally accept Muhammad's sole word at face value and no matter how he argues against the need for Jesus to die, his stance is very unsubstantiated at best.

If you even give me a mountain of gold, I will NEVER turn away from worshipping my Lord and my God.

Maybe so but to believe that this god is the true living God requires sole belief that Muhammad's message didn't contain any errors. This is blind faith and it proves nothing.

Why should one worship a half-naked man who cannot even save himself - much less me - from being killed by pagan Romans, I wonder? What kind of a weak, pathetic, gawd is that, eh?

First off Menj’s comments are very flawed and void of understanding of the Christian scriptures and Jesus purpose for coming as a messenger of God. He seems to believe that because Jesus was crucified that he was weak and unable to protect himself. This Muslim accusation may seem to make sense on the surface however one who is truly interested in learning the purpose behind Jesus' ministry should investigate his intent upon dying. Like many Muslim apologists, Menj does not understand the scriptures for Jesus himself said:

"The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life-only to take it up again. NO ONE TAKES IT FROM ME, BUT I LAY IT DOWN OF MY OWN ACCORD. I have AUTHORITY TO LAY IT DOWN AND AUTHORITY TO TAKE IT UP AGAIN. This command I received from my Father." John 10:17-18

The so called weak god, according to Menj’s comments, explicitly said that HE CAME TO LAY DOWN HIS LIFE while having the power to raise himself up from the dead. This doesn't sound weak to me. Can Menj or Muhammad raise themselves from the dead? No. So who is weak now? In the scriptures, Jesus again reiterated that he would raise himself up again:

"Jesus answered them, 'Destroy this temple, and I WILL RAISE IT AGAIN in three days'… But the temple he had spoken of WAS HIS BODY. After HE WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words Jesus had spoken." John 2:19, 21-22

Only God can raise people from the dead on his own accord. Notice how Jesus explicitly tells them that HE HIMSELF WILL RAISE HIMSELF FROM THE DEAD. By not having a thorough knowledge of Christians’ belief it is easy and common for Muslim apologists to misinterpret what they believe. To call Jesus weak is foolish since his purpose was to come and lay down his life and raise it up again. Jesus told his enemies to their face that they couldn't kill him unless he allowed!! Not only that, he had the nerve to tell them that he will raise himself from the dead!!! Jesus was consistently followed by people who wanted to kill him as the Bible shows:

"At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, 'Isn't this the man they are trying to kill? Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Christ? But we know where this man is from; when the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.' Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, 'Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him, but I know him because I am from him and he sent me.' At this they tried to seize him, BUT NO ONE LAID A HAND ON HIM, BECAUSE HIS TIME HAD NOT YET COME." John 7:25-30

Here we see Jesus' sovereign power and control over his environment and the people, being able to slip through their midst at will! The people tried to seize Jesus, but could not lay a hand on him since it was not his time to die.

"Thus the people were divided because of Jesus. Some wanted to seize him, BUT NO ONE LAID A HAND ON HIM. Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, 'Why didn't you bring him in?' 'NO ONE EVER SPOKE THE WAY THIS MAN DOES,' the guards declared." John 7:43-46

The “weak god”, Jesus could even control the crowds' intent of seizing him simply through his preaching! This actually proves that Jesus has the unlimited power to guide and control the crowds solely by his word. Notice that THERE WERE GUARDS who couldn't even arrest this weak man!! ONE person against an entire crowd!! Wow he sure is weak.

"All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff. BUT HE WALKED RIGHT THROUGH THE CROWD AND WENT ON HIS WAY." Luke 4:28-30

Here the weak peaceful Jesus allowed the crowd to take him to the cliff but when they tried to kill him, HE WALKED RIGHT THROUGH THEM WITHOUT A HAND BEING LAID ON HIM. Jesus TOTAL CONTROL over his environment allowed him to walk through mobs without a single hand being laid upon him. . If anything, these verses all demonstrate that far from being afraid and weak, Jesus was in complete control over the actions of his enemies and could do as he was pleased. Jesus purpose was to die as it was prophesied by the scriptures:

"From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and SUFFER MANY THINGS, from the elders and chief priests and scribes, AND BE KILLED AND ON THE THIRD DAY BE RAISED." Matthew 16:21

The purpose for dying was shown here:

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that THROUGH DEATH HE MIGHT DESTROY HIM WHO HAD THE POWER OF DEATH, THAT IS, THE DEVIL, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. Hebrews 2:14-18

His purpose for dying is to destroy the devil who had the power of death. How do you destroy death? By dying and rising from the dead into everlasting life!!! This submission until death could only be accomplished by someone who was STRONG. The Bible continues to give us the reason why the death of Jesus was necessary:

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: WHO, BEING IN VERY NATURE GOD, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became OBEDIENT TO DEATH-- even DEATH ON A CROSS! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the NAME OF JESUS every knee should bow, IN HEAVEN and ON EARTH and UNDER THE EARTH, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:5-11

FOR CHRIST DIED for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to BRING YOU TO GOD. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST, who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand--with angels, authorities and powers IN SUBMISSION TO HIM. 1 Pet. 3:18-22

Jesus death, burial and resurrection shows that he is God and all powerful. The entire new testament revolves around his crucifixion. So great was Jesus work until God himself said this in Hebrews about Jesus:

"BUT OF THE SON he (God) says, 'THY THRONE O GOD, is for ever and ever, the righteous scepter is the scepter of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; THEREFORE GOD, thy God, has anointed thee with the oil of gladness beyond thy comrades.'" Hebrews 1:8-9 RSV

Jesus himself reiterates in Revelations that he is all powerful and is the one now in charge of life and death. Christ says this in the final book of the bible:

I am the Living One; I WAS DEAD, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I HOLD the keys of death and Hades. Rev. 1:18

Unlike Muhammad, Jesus had total control over his death and he holds the keys to death and hades. Menj continues in his comments against accepting why Jesus couldn't save himself by saying:

>Sorry, boy, but keep dreaming!

I believe Menj is following one who truly is dreaming, called Muhammad Ibn Abdallah, founder of Islam. His call to prophethood was based on a dream:

Narrated ‘Aisha (the mother of the faithful believers):

The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Apostle WAS IN THE FORM OF GOOD DREAMS which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship (Allah alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him the journey food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read..." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 1, Number 3)

Narrated Aisha:

The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allah's Apostle was in the form of true dreams. The Angel came to him and said, "Read, in the Name of your Lord Who has created (all that exists), has created man a clot. Read! And your Lord is Most Generous"... (96.1,2,3). (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 479)

Now since Menj is so bent on being sarcasting with his comments on "someone dreaming" then it should be pointed out to him that Muhammad's inspiration can be argued to be nothing more than the figment of his imagination. We find it strange that his prophet's revelations had to begin WITH A DREAM.

"And they say: 'None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or Christian' Those are their *VAIN DESIRES*. Say: 'Produce thy proof if ye are truthful!'"

The proof is actually the “lack of proof” of love for his creation shown by Allah. Muslims have a very hard time understanding why God would allow his son to die, if he had one in the first place, and they believe that if God would allow such an unjust action to befall a prophet that it would somehow diminish God’s sovereignty over his creation. However, noted Christian apologist, John Gilchrist illustrates just how this can be turned against them:

One Muslim took it further with me. "How many sons have you got?" he asked me. I responded "two". "Well" he responded, "if you saw a group of thugs attacking just one of them and could see they were going to kill him, would you not go to his rescue? Do you not love your son?" As soon as you fall into the trap and simply answer "yes", the Muslim closes the argument - that is precisely what a good heavenly Father would have done for his Son.

I responded "Let me strengthen your argument further before I answer it. What if you saw me walking down the road with a knife in my own hand and my son in the other, intending to kill him myself. Would that not be far worse?" He agreed (and fell into my trap!). I continued "Then how can you believe that Abraham was such a great prophet and father when that is precisely what he did. He prepared one day to kill his own son according to the Qur’an (Surah 37.102-103). God told Moses ‘You shall not kill’ (Exodus 20.13) - How can you think well of Abraham when he was prepared to do this to his very own son?"

He emphatically replied (and I am quoting him!): "You do not understand. That was different! (my emphasis). It was a test of his love for God. If a man will give his son for God, he’ll give anything for him!" The door was open for a more effective witness than any normal presentation of the Gospel message would have achieved. "Exactly", I replied, "and that is precisely what we are saying about God. He did not stand by watching, he willingly gave his Son for us to save us from our sins. It was the GREATEST PROOF of his love that he likewise could have given. John 3.16!"

I continued "God spared the son of Abraham but he did not spare his own Son. God showed, in commanding Abraham to give the best proof of his love for God by sacrificing his son, just what he was going to do by giving the greatest manifestation of his love for us. Christians know that in the cross God has done the very best he could for us. DOES ISLAM HAVE ANYTHING TO COMPARE WITH THIS? Has Allah ever matched Abraham’s supreme example of sacrificial love?"--- (Source)

In comparison, Christianity actually demonstrates that God has a greater affection for his creation as opposed to Islam where God never interacts with man. This is also a strike against Muhammad since Muslims have no way of verifying if he even brought the true words of God. If God never presented himself to Muhammad while allowing his message to contradict other previous scriptures, how can Muslims believe that Muhammad is a prophet of God? Simple, they just blindly accept what Muhammad says and nothing more. Jesus, Moses and others saw God while the Hadith says this about Muhammad:

Narrated Masruq:

I said to 'Aisha, "O Mother! Did Prophet Muhammad see his Lord?" Aisha said, "What you have said makes my hair stand on end! Know that if somebody tells you one of the following three things, he is a liar: Whoever tells you THAT MUHAMMAD SAW HIS LORD, IS A LIAR." Then Aisha recited the Verse:

'No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision. He is the Most Courteous Well-Acquainted with all things.' (6.103) 'It is not fitting for a human being that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration or from behind a veil.' (42.51) 'Aisha further said, "And whoever tells you that the Prophet knows what is going to happen tomorrow, is a liar." She then recited:

'No soul can know what it will earn tomorrow.' (31.34) She added: "And whoever tell you that he concealed (some of Allah's orders), is a liar." Then she recited: 'O Apostle! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord..' (5.67) 'Aisha added. "But the Prophet saw Gabriel in his true form twice." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 378)

And,

Narrated Masruq:

'Aisha said, "If anyone tells you that MUHAMMAD HAS SEEN HIS LORD, HE IS A LIAR, for Allah says: 'No vision can grasp Him.' (6.103) And if anyone tells you that Muhammad has seen the Unseen, he is a liar, for Allah says: "None has the knowledge of the Unseen but Allah." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 93, Number 477)

Muhammad never personally interacted with God like the biblical prophets. He didn't even see God which was a requirement to be “like the prophet like unto Moses”. Muhammad didn’t even speak in the name of YHWH or some acceptable synonym of his name which disqualifies him as being a prophet of God in any instance. Any prophet must speak in the name of the LORD/YHWH which is a requirement. We have presented our proof and found out that the idea of Muhammad mentioned the words of God as being unfounded. Muslim attacks against the crucifixion of Jesus only show their unfound knowledge of Christianity. Jesus wasn’t weak and the father’s love for his creation through the crucifixion is unmatched by Islam. Christians personally know the love of God; Muslims don’t since Allah doesn’t personally interact with his followers.

Therefore if any Muslim tries to deginerate the message of the cross and claim that Jesus is weak and couldn't save himself. Jesus answer by saying "THAT IS WHY HE IS STRONG BECAUSE HE CAME NOT TO SAVE HIMSELF BUT TO SAVE YOU AND ME". Continue by saying "THE REASON HE DIED WAS SO I COULD LIVE". "THROUGH HIS DEATH I AM FREE FOREVER FROM THE SNARES OF DEATH. HE CAME TO DIE SO HE COULD DO THIS:

DESTROY HIM WHO HAD THE POWER OF DEATH, THAT IS, THE DEVIL, and release those who through fear of death... Hebrews 2:14-15

Therefore we can say this:

Living he loved me
Dying he saved me
Burried he carried my sins far away

Muslims constantly live in fear of death, including their prophet Muhammad, who did't know what would happen to him. Christians never have to experience this problem because our founder conquered death. The reason Muhammad lived in fear of death was because he didn't have Jesus.

We are grateful for Menj bringing up this topic dealing with if "Jesus was so weak he couldn't save himself from the crucifixion let alone be God". Our next installment will further expound on this issue along with comparing whether Jesus and his followers are weak or Allah. In conclusion, we can say that Jesus was anything but weak, but the almighty saviour who conquered death and destroyed the devil. He beat Satan at his own game by dying and rising again. God bless All.
